Govt to reconsider capping education fees of martyrs' children at Rs 10,000

Children of martyrs, those wounded in war and disabled persons will no longer get their full tuition, hostel or travel expenses fees for their education. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has capped the entire monthly expenditure to just Rs 10,000. The total cost spent by the MoD to fund such children in 2014-15 was a paltry Rs 13.6 crore, a little over Rs 14 crore the following year and it spent about Rs 15.93 crore in 2016-17. The capping of educational expenditure for children of the martyred or disabled wasn't taken up with the government. In the meanwhile, thousands of children of soldiers who are at various levels of education will have a tough time arranging for their tuition and hostel fees.
