Govt workers who physically reported to work during MECQ to get hazard pay

PHOTO BY JOHN ORVEN VERDOTEGOVERNMENT workers who physically reported to work during the period of modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) are now eligible to receive hazard pay. This after President Rodrigo Duterte has authorized the granting of a hazard pay to government workers who reported for work at their respective offices while strict lockdowns were in place amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. According to Administrative Order 43 signed by Duterte on June 1, those who physically reported to work during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) are eligible for the hazard pay. Duterte's new order amended Administrative Order 26 issued in March last year, which says that hazard pay should only be granted to those who physically reported to work during the ECQ period. The order states that the hazard pay, which will cover regular, contractual and job order workers in government agencies, state universities and colleges and government owned or controlled corporations, should not exceed P500 per day.
