Grand Prix Gives Three-Fold Boost To Sales Yields At Mexico City Hotels

The city’s problems peaked on 19 September when a 7.1 magnitude earthquake shook Mexico City and the surrounding states for around 20 seconds. It brought down more than 40 buildings and caused 370 deaths including 228 in Mexico City itself. The earthquake hit just 40 days before the Grand Prix which left some wondering whether it would affect the race. The previous Grand Prix was in Austin, Texas, which is less than 1,000 miles away so team personnel tend to arrive early in Mexico City. By the Monday of race week occupancy in its hotels had already hit 84.9% which was 47.1% higher than in 2016.
