AS a non-resident of Malaysia, I was very pleased that the government included non-residents like me (and many thousands of other non-residents) in its vaccination programme. Yesterday, 200 78- and 79-year-olds were scheduled for jabs in Melaka and we were expertly and efficiently dealt with by friendly, professional staff. They took care to make sure that I understood what I was told after I advised them of my hearing loss and I observed special care being taken with others in wheelchairs, etc. After the jab, I asked “Where do I pay”, and I was told “Payment not required”. I am hopeful that the government of my home country, New Zealand, will extend the same courtesy to Malaysians and other nationals currently in the country.
