Grid still vulnerable, but Eskom IS learning – Ramokgopa

Eskom will be bringing nearly 7,000MW generating capacity back on the grid after a “difficult three days” of Stage 6 loadshedding, said Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa during a media briefing on Monday. Eskom is obliged to carry generation reserves to cater for unforeseen events.”Demand on Sunday hit 31,095MW, with Eskom having 28,531MW of power on the grid. This meant people with solar panels are not benefitting from it and are then forced to “draw from the grid.” This added additional pressure on the grid, he said. Ramokgopa said that by July 18, nearly 7,000 MW of generating capacity should return to the grid. Between the 14th and 18th July, we should come back with about 6,800MW of generating capacity.
