The Los Angeles county board of supervisors voted to rename downtown’s Grand Park to Gloria Molina Grand Park, and plans to dedicate the East Los Angeles Civic Center subway station in her name. Gloria Molina, a pioneering Chicana leader in California state and local politics, passed away at the age of 74 after a long battle with cancer. A Democrat, Molina was the first Latina to serve on the Los Angeles city council, the state assembly, and the Los Angeles county board of supervisors. The Los Angeles county board of supervisors renamed Grand Park to Gloria Molina Grand Park and plans to dedicate a subway station in honor of Molina’s trailblazing legacy.
