GUATEMALA CITY — Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales has named a new attorney general after the previous chief prosecutor resigned due to threats. Villagran told a local radio station on Monday that she will leave Guatemala due to the threats. She attributed the threats received by her staff to the cases handled by her office, which include high-profile corruption cases. Former President Otto Perez Molina and other officials remain jailed in connection with that and other cases. Lawyer Anabela Morfin will now be the country’s top legal officer, replacing Maria Eugenia Villagran.
