The Election Commission (EC) has announced ‘dry day’ in Gujarat from 5 pm on Thursday to midnight of December 9, till first phase of polls are over. The dry day will also be implemented in two union territories and the border districts of three states neighbouring Gujarat. Mohan Jha, Additional Director General of Police (administration), said, “The dry day will be implemented across Gujarat and licensed liquor shops will remain closed on these days. Chief Electoral Officer in Gujarat BB Swain said: “The EC has distributed voter slips to almost 95% of the total registered voters. The commission has also sent 93 lakh bulk messages to voters on their registered mobile numbers for the same,” added Swain.
