Gun used to kill Trayvon Martin removed from online auction

An online auction for the gun that former Florida neighbourhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman used to kill black unarmed teen Trayvon Martin appears to have been halted after the weapon's listing removed from the auction site. Trayvon Martin's 2012 death sparked protests across the U.S. and a national debate on race relations. In the now-defunct listing, Zimmerman described the weapon as "a piece of American history." "The Trayvon Martin Foundation is committed to its mission of ending senseless gun violence in the United States," read a statement an attorney for Martin's family gave the Florida station. When asked what he thought of people who would be opposed to auctioning the gun, Zimmerman said: "They're not going to be bidding on it, so I couldn't care less about them."
