SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, Texas — A man opened fire inside of a Baptist church in a small South Texas community on Sunday, killing more than 20 people and wounding others, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation. Federal law enforcement swarmed the scene to offer assistance, including ATF investigators and members of the FBI’s evidence collection team. It was not immediately clear if the church in Sutherland Springs, about 50 kilometres southeast of San Antonio, was holding services at the time of the shooting. Abbott tweeted Sunday: “Our prayers are with all who were harmed by this evil act.” He thanked law enforcement for their response. Trump tweeted: “May God be w/ the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas.”
