This Friday, director Ashim Ahluwalia’s Daddy, a biopic on most notorious Mumbai gangster Arun Gawli, played by Arjun Rampal, opened nationwide, in over 1,000 locations. Gunned down by bad reviews, the gangster movie is pacing to gross a terrible $1 million over the weekend, which is much below the pre-release predictions. While it’s true that Daddy is playing in far fewer cinemas than new releases usually get, it’s nevertheless a dismal showing. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, the film, which grossed over $45 million, stands testimony to the gangster film genre’s long-enduring appeal. Where he fails, however, is keeping it all coherent.”This weekend's other new nationwide offering, Poster Boys, is in grave danger as well.
