The Bench observed that despite numerous directions to authorities regarding lack of security for doctors, the issue has not received the attention it deserves. “In fact, all the Delhi Police standing orders placed on record only relate to steps taken after an incident takes place, without ensuring security of the doctors and hospital staff,” the Bench noted. The court directed the government to develop a mechanism ensuring security of doctors and staff in every hospital in the Capital. The court warned that if steps are not taken, it will initiate contempt of court proceedings against the officials concerned. Non-bailable offenceEarlier, the court had asked authorities to publicise the consequences of attacking doctors on duty, which is a non-bailable offence.
