HK exports headed for 2pc drop in February

Hong Kong's exports could drop by 2 percent year-on-year in February, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council says. Benjamin Chau Kai-leung, the deputy executive director, said January exports slumped by 22.7 from a year ago, much worse than expectations. Chau said the drop reflected the earlier Lunar New Year holiday, as well as the impacts from the social unrest, Sino-US trade tensions and the coronavirus epidemic. He expects the online demand for medical products to rise despite an overall weak local exports. These include the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show on May 18-21, according to Chau.
