One of the most pressing contributions of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) is the publication of its annual report on the state of human rights. The report maps out the existing problems regarding human rights and Pakistan’s compliance with UN treaties, the progress witnessed in the last year, and suggestions for improvement. Perhaps not surprisingly, 2021’s report, published this month, shows a deteriorating situation regarding human rights as per last year and outlines the disappointing performance goals in 2021. The report notes how the last year was exceptionally depressing regarding the state of human rights in Pakistan. Regarding forced conversions, for example, the report notes that documented at least 27 alleged forced conversions in Sindh in 2021, seven of which involved minors.
