Speaking to The Sligo Champion as HSE officials still grapple with the ransomware attack that has seen hospital IT systems shutdown for over a week, Head of IT Sligo's Computing and Electronic Engineering Department, Diane O'Brien says the recent ransomware attack on the HSE has acted as a 'wakeup call' for other organisations. Ms O'Brien agreed that unfortunately for the HSE, it was 'the perfect storm'. I don't know how the HSE attack happened, but we need to protect what we can, we're all responsible." Eoin Byrne, Cluster Manager for Cyber Ireland, states that "Ireland's cyber security sector has seen the expansion of Multi National Corporations with cyber security operations as well as new foreign direct investment. "Over 60% of our members plan to hire for cyber security roles in 2021, of which 50% will hire new graduates.
