0DISASTER officials on Tuesday said two more people died as a result of monsoon rains, bringing the death toll to seven since last week. The number of people displaced by heavy rains and flooding in Metro Manila, Luzon and parts of the Visayas also rose to nearly 155,000, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported. Six people were injured, while search-and-rescue teams were looking for seven people reported missing at the height of heavy rains in Marinduque and Quezon provinces. Benedicto Brasileño, 68, drowned in Barangay Canauillian, Janiuay, Iloilo, while Jonel Fernandez, 11, was found dead at a pumping station in Nagtahan, Manila. The weather bureau said monsoon rains could still trigger flashfloods and landslides in the Ilocos region and the provinces of Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac and Pampanga today.
