more-inThe National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Saturday released a handbook on skill development and counselling of staff of Child Care Institutions (CCIs). The Commission noted that several children in our country grow up in childcare institutions instead of their own families. “Children exposed to institutional care often suffer from structural neglect, which may include minimum physical resources, unfavourable and unstable staffing patterns and inadequate caregiver-child interactions,” a release issued by the NCPCR read. ‘Kids abused by kin’NCPCR chairperson Stuti Kacker said: “Children who are abused by their families become mentally disturbed. We hope that the handbook will help counsellors to heal the minds of the victims.’’She added that there is was a need to promote positive mental health of all children and adolescentsAlso present at the function were DCPCR chairperson Ramesh Negi, IHBAS director Dr. Nimesh G. Desai and AIIMS professor Dr. Rajesh Sagar.
