Neither challenging for Europe nor battling against relegation, Hibs have been a bit “meh” in their first season under Jack Ross but a run to the latter stages of the William Hill Scottish Cup could be just what they need to set the pulse racing again. In a terrific fourth-round replay at Easter Road last night in which both sides gave everything, warts and all, Hibs responded to the loss of an early goal — scored almost inevitably by Lawrence Shankland — with a Scott Allan penalty and a Christian Doidge hat-trick to reach the last 16. There, they will play BSC Glasgow in Alloa on Sunday February 9. With every respect to the Lowland League team, it is a tie Hibs should take care
