Harborside student memoir makes New York Times' Tiny Memoir Contest

When Harborside Academy junior Kassie Baggett wrote a memoir for her English class, being named one of 15 New York Times Tiny Memoir Contest winners didn’t cross her mind. In fact, she had no expectations of anything coming from her submission, which stemmed only from a class assignment. So I just took one of those little snippets that I remember.”Baggett said her parents are always proud of her, but being named a Tiny Memoir Contest winner was especially touching to her mother. The New York Times Tiny Memoir Contest is a 100-word narrative contest for students from any country ages 13 to 19 in middle or high school. Contest entries must be original works, not published elsewhere and tell a short, powerful moment or event in one’s life.
