(CNN) We first heard the sounds of Martian wind and a laser zapping rocks on Mars. Now, the Perseverance rover has returned audio of itself driving across the Martian surface. NASA's Mars Perseverance rover acquired this image with its left navigation camera March 7. As the rover's six metal wheels move across the Martian surface, the sound of rattling, pinging, banging and crunching can be heard. The agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, located in Pasadena, California, manages the Perseverance rover mission.
