Stations were flooded and roads submerged after half a month’s worth of rain fell in just a few hours, and a landslide derailed a train near Watford Junction. A strike on two London Tube lines also forced passengers to seek alternative routes in the bad weather, which comes shortly after the hottest September day for more than a century.
