A man who fatally beat and strangled his financier father inside a luxury Irish hotel was embraced by his remaining family as he was cleared over his death. Henry McGowan, 31, found not guilty by reason of insanity over the November 2024 killing of John McGowan, 66, inside the five-star Ballyfin Demesne hotel, County Laois. The acquaintance called the McGowan family to say that he was, 'roaming the city in a hot pink faux fur jacket and had a wild look in his eyes'. According to the New York Times, in the back of a taxi on the way to the hotel John pleaded: 'Will you make me one promise. Medical helicopter doctor Lisa Cunningham was in touch with John and his family to help navigate the Irish medical system.
