More than 50% of the calls received by Puducherry Youth Helpline (9655507090), created by the Trust for Youth and Child Leadership (TYCL), are from job-seekers between the age group of 22 and 30. Siva Mathiyazhagan, Co-Founder of TYCL, said between January 2017 and January 2018 they received at least 112 calls from youth, with an average of eight to 10 calls per month. “At least 61 calls were from job-seekers, 22 for career guidance, 13 for educational loan, three for counselling, two for entrepreneurship assistance and the rest are unknown calls. “The Puducherry Youth Helpline was created as a virtual space for youngsters to share their feelings and seek help to find solutions to their day-to-day life challenges. Most of the calls we have received were from engineering graduates facing difficulty in finding jobs,” added Francis Kulanthairaj, a Youth Helpline fellow.
