Here's the best time to book a flight as rising fuel costs push Canadian airfares higher

Canadians planning to book flights in the coming weeks may be faced with higher prices as global fuel costs climb. Air Canada Vacations, a subsidiary of Air Canada that offers vacation packages, is one of the latest to implement new fees. Canadians booking packages with Air Canada Vacations to designated “SUN destinations” will pay an extra $50 per passenger fuel surcharge, starting April 6, 2026. Meanwhile, WestJet is introducing a temporary $60 fuel surcharge on companion voucher bookings, starting April 8. Other global carriers, including Qantas, SAS and Air New Zealand, have also increased airfares in response to rising fuel costs.
