High-tech CCTV network to make life tougher for criminals


This will be the first video analytics and facial recognition system assimilating databases of criminals from other states across India. In October, Maharashtra government operationalised its Rs949 crore project which includes a network of 4,797 cameras at around 1,510 locations in Mumbai. The automated facial recognition system, whose algorithms can throw up matches from stored feeds in seconds, will have a capacity for one lakh pictures, said Bakshi, adding that the solution was scalable. He said that this would be the first of its kind surveillance system in India. The project includes two control rooms at the police commissioner office and traffic police headquarters and a disaster recovery room at Kalina.
