A car has been partly submerged as rogue waves flood the highway on Wednesday. A high tide has “swamped” State Highway 1 north of Kaikōura, partly submerging a car whose driver was reportedly pulled to safety by a passerby. Emergency services were notified about the incident near Kēkerengū, about 60 kilometres north of Kaikōura, about 8.45am on Wednesday. While the weather up the coast north of Kaikōura was sunny on Wednesday morning, an unusually high tide had surged over a dip in the highway near Kēkerengū.
