David C. Anderson, 75, an investment adviser and bluegrass musician who lives in St. Louis, Mo., on his three 1933 Buicks, as told to A.J. I saved funds, but my father refused to give me permission to buy a vintage car because he thought my academic record would suffer. I finally bought my first vintage vehicle in 1971—a 1933 Buick Model Fifty-Six S Sport Coupe (which had a base cost of $1,030 new). We made more than 30 consecutive appearances in the pursuit of elusive original parts to improve our vehicles. In 1989, I started looking for a certain convertible sedan, of which only 124 were made, to complete my collection.
