The nine-strong shadow monetary policy committee urged the Bank to hold rates at 0.5 per cent in a unanimous decision. The official committee makes its decision this evening and publishes the vote on Thursday. The Bank raised rates last month for the first time in a decade, with the committee split 7-2 in favour of an increase. It decided that higher rates were needed to tame inflation which, it was announced yesterday, hit 3.1 per cent last month for the first time in almost six years.
