The transit housing was constructed under the Rangamatia Cluster Improvement Project through the Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY). Of this, ₹661.89 lakh was allocated for transit housing with civic and social infrastructure. Initially, 70 Ambatota Slum families were moved to Kanyashram transit units. Sixty-two were eventually provided permanent houses at Buddha Vihar; eight remained unallotted, and five left after prolonged uncertainty. Meanwhile, residents currently living in the remaining transit housing units remain anxious, fearing further evictions amid the looming threat of government bulldozers.
