Hong Kong suspends broadcast of BBC World News

BBC World News was today barred from airing in China and Hong Kong’s public broadcaster said it was suspending the television channel, a week after Britain’s media regulator revoked Chinese state television’s UK broadcast licence. China’s broadcasting regulator announced that the BBC’s satellite TV news channel had “violated the requirements of news to be truthful and fair, harmed China’s national interests and undermined China’s national unity” and therefore would be denied “landing in the new year”, referring to the Lunar New Year. SponsoredThe channel did not meet requirements for foreign channels broadcasting in China and its application to air for another year would not be accepted, China’s National Radio and Television Administration said in an announcement.
