Hook to face Newstalk inquiry over rape remark

George Hook is facing a disciplinary investigation in Newstalk over a comment on his radio show that an alleged rape victim was partly responsible for what happened because she was drunk and went home with a man she had just met. Hook’s comments were criticised yesterday. Chris Donoghue, Newstalk’s political correspondent, tweeted they were “disgusting” and that “someone needs to go to town on Hook”: “I’m not trying to be a hero,” he wrote. Rape is never a victim’s fault.”The National Women’s Council of Ireland says it will make a formal complaint to Newstalk and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. It tweeted that Hook’s comments were “dangerous and a perfect encapsulation of rape culture”.
