Just as coronavirus threatens to swamp the NHS – with hospitals running out of beds, patients being treated in ambulances and the longest waiting lists ever – what does the Health Secretary do? Treasury mandarins are right to be concerned about taxpayers’ money when two-thirds of private beds went unused in the summer, at a cost of £400million a month. That is a shameful and unforgivable decision for a Health Secretary to make. As critical care specialist Dave Carr tells us, it shows a total lack of planning. Failure to understand the impact of your decisions and a total lack of foresight suggests only one answer.
