House resolutions seek Philippines return to ICC

House resolutions seek Philippines return to ICCThe International Criminal Court is investigating killings linked to former president Rodrigo Duterte's anti-drug campaign, which rights groups say left thousands dead. MANILA, Philippines — Opposition lawmakers in the House of Representatives yesterday filed resolutions seeking the revival of the Philippines’ membership in the International Criminal Court (ICC). The Duterte administration withdrew the country’s membership in March 2018. “Instead, the authorities may surrender or extradite suspected or accused persons in the Philippines to the appropriate international court, if any, or to another state pursuant to the applicable extradition laws and treaties,” the resolution stated, quoting from RA 9851. Cendaña said returning to the ICC would be an act of solidarity with all the victims of extrajudicial killings under the Duterte administration.
