MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives is expected to pass on Monday a bill offering scholarships to college students who want to pursue a degree in medicine. Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, one of the authors of House Bill No. ADVERTISEMENT“It will open the opportunity for poor but deserving students to pursue a degree in medicine and serve their communities in the countryside,” Rodriguez said in a statement. Rodriguez said that the measure would also be the answer to the lack of physicians in areas hit by pandemic since scholarship recipients could be asked to serve in the hotspots. If no one qualifies in a particular town, another scholar could be selected from the neighboring municipality, the bill states.
