Sinn Féin identified this as the issue that would most likely top voters’ concerns pre-Covid. Housing policy will again dominate all areas of debate when the next general election comes around. Radical thinking will be required to prevent international property speculators hoovering up developments off the plans here and holding them in a buy-to-rent vice grip. Our unprecedented housing shortage and soaring prices are the result of decades of failing to match supply with demand. But a house – or rather, the lack of one – could decide the fate of this Government.
