Adam CampanellaForty years ago a young husband and father from Queens purchased a single flower shop on First Ave in Manhattan in an effort to provide better for his family. From that flower shop in 1976 grew a $1.15 billion dollar company and arguably the biggest name in e-commerce gift giving in the nation: 1-800-Flowers.com. While moonlighting as a bartender in Manhattan weekend nights in order to make ends meet for his young family, Jim met Nick, the owner of a flower shop across the street. The idea of owning a flower shop appealed to Jim. Jim credits the company’s willingness to grow with the changing tides of how people communicate and do business for 1-800-Flowers’ continued popularity.
