It’s the largest egg recall in the U.S. since 2010, but salmonella contamination is a risk we should be mindful of every day. Salmonella is a bacteria that can be present on the inside of affected eggs, so if you eat your eggs raw or undercooked, you’re at risk of food poisoning. Here’s what the CDC recommends, even if your eggs aren’t linked to an outbreak:Buy pasteurized eggs and egg products when possible. To avoid risk of salmonella contamination, make sure your eggs are cooked until both the yolk and white are firm. As always, never eat eggs, or foods made with eggs, that have been sitting out at room temperature for more than two hours.
