PARIS—The French former commando clutched an unusual package on an early-morning flight from Moscow to Paris in September, on a mission blessed by the Russian and French presidents. Stashed in Pierre Malinowski’s bag were fragments of the teeth, leg bone and skull of French General Charles Etienne Gudin, a friend of Napoleon’s, who was killed by a cannonball during France’s failed invasion of Russia in 1812.
