With the public mood turning away from lockdown, pubs were preparing to open early in July whatever No10’s advice. The World Health Organisation recommends at least 1m distancing and France, China, Denmark, and Singapore, Canada and Spain are also reviewing their 2m rule. Boris Johnson said he was “sure” relaxing the distancing rule, with other health safeguards, would allow all schools to reopen that month. Some sports, such as cricket, not cleared under the 2m rule, will resume as players can play closer to each other. The airline industry had warned that the 2m rule made it economically impossible to run services.
