Huge Northland scrub fire now under controlSUPPLIED At least four helicopters were used to tackle a large scrub fire in rural Northland. Firefighters have contained a massive scrub fire which burned across 133 hectares of bush in Northland. Eight crews from Whangarei and Kaikohe, along with forestry teams and helicopters, worked to keep it under control. Fire and Emergency's Principal Rural Fire Officer Myles Taylor said that although the fire was now under control three helicopters would remain on standby. On Thursday, a house was evacuated as dozens of firefighters struggled to contain the large and "out of control" scrub fire.
