Hundreds of animals including penguins and seals need a new home as zoo closes

The Wild Planet Trust said it could no longer afford to reopen its Living Coasts site in Torquay, Devon, due to the huge cost of the coronavirus lockdown. The Devon site was home to a range of animals, including South American fur seals, African penguins, macaroni penguins, sea ducks, pied avocet, redshanks, black-necked stilts, ruffs, and terns. Sites including London Zoo, Chester Zoo and Longleat Safari Park finally reopened to guests from Monday - with strict new rules and social distancing in place.
