Tommy Pilling, 62, from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, who had been treated in three different hospitals since early December with a chest infection, died on New Year’s Day. “She doesn’t remember a life before Tommy,” Newman said of her sister. Maryanne’s mother Linda said: “Tommy has left a vast hole in our lives that nobody will ever fill. “I cannot thank the staff enough, their care and compassion was outstanding – especially during these dreadful times,” she said.
