Thick, snowy-white toxic foam, as high as 10 feet, covered the streets of Dharani Nagar in Hyderabad’s Kukatpally earlier this week when incessant rain flooded the nearby Pariki Cheruvu Lake. Vanitha, another resident, added that flood water enters their homes every year and authorities have turned a blind eye to their woes, blaming soaps and shampoos for the frothing of the lake water. When visited, the colony residents complained of official apathy and lack of political will. “The Pariki Cheruvu Lake today is only 20 to 30 per cent of what it was. “The lakes are all interconnected and mixed with sewage from residential colonies upstream and industrial effluents from Suraram and Jeedimetla.
