[Elvis Ogina, Standard]The National Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ukur Yatani has told Members of Parliament he will soon be seeking their permission to raise Kenya’s debt ceiling from Sh9 trillion to a higher figure. Yatani, who read the 2021/22 financial year budget set at Sh3.6 trillion, said raising the ceiling would allow the country to manage its debt operations and finance a Sh930 billion deficit in the new budget. The Education ministry was given Sh202.8 billion; Sh12 billion channelled to free primary education programme and Sh62.2 billion to free day secondary education. The ICT ministry will receive Sh20.9 billion in the 2021/22 financial year, Yatani announced.
