The inspiration: A rare New York engagement of Shelagh Delaney’s 1958 kitchen-sink drama, “A Taste of Honey,” which she wrote when she was a mere 18. “Honey” was produced within months and soon became a critical and commercial hit on the West End and Broadway, and, later, a well-regarded movie.
