An aerial view of central Christchurch in 2009. OPINION: I can’t remember much of ‘the old Christchurch’; the earthquakes began when I was 12. Things remained this way as the cordon shrank, and the central city gradually reopened, and my family and I stayed away. Comparing the Christchurch of today with the Christchurch of old has me questioning if this is really the best it can be. A survey last year showed few residents believe the city centre is better now than it was before the earthquakes.
