Pat Garner, 29, had planned to buy with his girlfriend this spring - but since then lockdown, furlough and tougher rules from mortgage lenders mean he's now facing a far longer wait. “My girlfriend and I started looking for a home to buy in Manchester and surrounding areas at the start of the year," Pat told Mirror Money. “We found a place we were very interested in, but it had to be put on hold during lockdown as we couldn't get the survey completed. Affordability rules also mean that - when deciding how much to offer people - lenders are using furlough salaries, rather than original ones. Especially after saving up for a long time for a 10% deposit," Pat said.
