IN-SPACe to be ISRO’s extended arm to encourage private participation in space sector

To enable the opening up of space sector for private players and synergize the efforts, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved setting up of IN-SPACe (Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre), an extended body meant to supplement the work of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). This decision comes after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s announcement in May, that the private sector will be a co-traveller in India’s Space journey. According to a statement, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre( IN-SPACe) is meant to provide a level playing field for private companies to use Indian space infrastructure. It will also hand-hold, promote and guide the private industries in space activities through encouraging policies and a friendly regulatory environment. He added that this reform would augment India’s Space Commission and warrant the appointment of new roles at the Department of Space.
