He breathed his last on a cardiac attack while attending an international conference in Birmingham on Wednesday, the university said in a press release. Dr Alam joined IUB in 2004 and was the dean of SLASS since January 2016. He was also the director of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell or IQAC at IUB since 2015. Dr Alam served as the head of the Social Sciences and Humanities Department from 2013 to 2015. He was a prominent folk singer and a great collector of folk songs from different parts of the country.
