A total of 12 people, including two children from the same family, were killed in the incident. Sirajul Islam, 62, son of Fakir Chand Biswas of Chaugachha in Jashore, and his wife Kohinur Begum, 55, Nazrul Islam Raihan, 33, son of Md. Selim Mia of Sudharam in Noakhali; Sayeda, 9, daughter of Sirajul Doula of Lakshmipur Sadar; Md. At that moment, the speeding train rammed into the bus causing it to get stuck with the train engine.
